I’ve always created paintings in my head. Visual art was my love and focus in my early adult life and I studied at the Ontario College of Art (now OCADU), graduating from Design in 1985. Seven years later, I left the art world and built a career in editing, writing, and marketing.
In 2018, the desire to create called to me again and I began working with collage and then, with Carole’s encouragement, I began to paint. She was instrumental in my discovery of expression through acrylics, generously and freely sharing her wealth of knowledge. After two years of taking classes with Carole every few months (both at her studio and more recently online), I’ve had 3 pieces accepted into three juried exhibitions with the Ontario Society of Artists, the Federation of Canadian Artists, and the Colour & Form Society. …..Holly Hutchison
I’ve taken a couple of online courses with Carole Finn and will definitely take more. Initially, I was skeptical about taking an online course, but quickly found it to be an effective way to learn. Carole is a talented artist who is eager to share her knowledge and is open-handed with her time. Equally important, she knows how to use technology as a delivery and teaching tool to maximize the learning experience. In addition to several hours of group learning each week, there is ample one-on-one instruction and plenty of feedback. Thanks to Carole I have a much better understanding of colour, values and perspective, and have sharpened my observational skills….Teddy Thayler
Carole is a huge book of knowledge on all things art and very generous with sharing that knowledge. Through her online teaching course she worked with each of us to create a painting from our individual reference of choice, breaking the process into manageable steps. We had both beginners and experienced students in our class. We all learned a great deal regarding colour, colour mixing, matching values in theory, as well as relating them to each painting in the class, as a group and individually. I have taken in-studio and on-line classes and I feel I learned more from Carole’s online course. Carole is an encouraging and pleasant teacher. A side benefit is that you get to work from home, so can paint any time of day or into the night, and don’t have to pack and unpack your supplies…. Marg Thayler
I had the opportunity to take an online painting course with Carole Finn. Having never painted and having marginal computerskills, I found Carole’s methods of teaching using Zoom both with the larger group and individually were very effective. I was able to learn from the other artists but Carole gave individualized feedback about my painting as I progressed. My goal was to learn about colour and perspective. During the course I learned about the colour wheel, how to mix paints to make the required colour, look carefully at details, and composition. Learning to paint is an ongoing process. I would take another course with Carole in the future to continue to develop my skills. Carol was more than generous with her time, her vast knowledge and encouragement……… Jane Miles
Carole Finns on-line art classes transformed my life.
I had no experience painting. Carole Finn guided me step by step through the entire painting process – from preparing the canvas, mixing paint, composition, right through to the finished product. Look at the beautiful picture I painted! I like the on-line format. Carole has created a multimedia learning experience by using a number of computer programs to illustrate her lessons. A combination of group and private classes maximize your learning experience. Now I find myself looking at the world through different eyes. Everything is ‘my next potential masterpiece’. I can’t wait for classes to start up again…. Janice Bishop
