Description
This little nest with a mother Vireo is no bigger than my closed fist. It was hanging in the lilac tree outside my bedroom window. The wonderful picture was painted to give a sense of depth with my garden and pond behind. The foreground was a detailed hard-edged painting of lilac branches, cool blue green leaves and the little bird in nest hanging, standing out against the blurred, soft edged, warm yellow green leaves and branches behind. The background was, contrasted to a soft, simple blue. The resulting work gave a feeling of looking through the leaves to the sky beyond, in 3D.
