A Conversation with CAROLE FINN about her studio

“This space serves as the hub for my artistic practice. Remarkably, all the original paintings you see on this site are located here, with the exception of a few that have been shipped to shows around the province. The rack, reaching up to the 12-foot ceiling, is an invaluable asset for holding some of my larger paintings, while another smaller rack holds print samples.

“If you look closely, you can see my easel has a painting titled 'Wonder' on it. This is how I typically work—with the canvas facing the window. Unfortunately, I often keep the blinds down because the strong sunlight coming through my windows causes me a lot of difficulties since I am partially blind. My little dogs' feeding bowls and bed are no longer beside me; Maebhe, my Scottie, passed away in January 2025, and her brother Fhythick died the year before. I miss having them watch me paint.”

    A Painting In Progress

“Eagle’s Descent” was inspired by a photograph taken at the wharf on the property. In the next picture, you can just see the tips of the boats. For this painting, I aimed to capture the light breaking through the clouds to illuminate the post. I also wanted to experiment with texture in the water to create a surface that reflects light like real water does. I believe I achieved that. If you're fortunate enough to see the actual painting, you can judge for yourself. Overall, it was an interesting experiment that I plan to repeat."
